Outsourcing to the Philippines for US companies
For a US business, a Philippine team is either working while you sleep or working your hours on a night shift — both are normal, and both have trade-offs. Here’s how US companies actually set it up, what they outsource, and what to check before you start.
Time zones
How the hours line up
The Philippines is 12–16 hours ahead of the continental US, depending on your coast and whether you’re on daylight time. That sounds like a problem. In practice it splits into two clean options.
Tickets answered, books reconciled, listings updated and inboxes cleared while your office is closed. You hand over at the end of your day and pick up finished work in the morning. Best for back office, bookkeeping, e-commerce operations, content and any support that isn’t phone-first.
The team works 9-to-5 on your clock. Common for phone and chat support, sales development and anything that needs same-moment collaboration. Night shifts usually carry a differential and are far more reliable from an office than from home — power, transport and safety all matter at 3am.
| Your time zone | Philippines is | A standard Philippine day (9am–6pm PH) | A Philippine night shift (9pm–6am PH) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eastern (New York, Miami) | 12–13 h ahead | 8–9pm to 5–6am your time | 8–9am to 5–6pm your time |
| Central (Chicago, Dallas) | 13–14 h ahead | 7–8pm to 4–5am | 7–8am to 4–5pm |
| Mountain (Denver, Phoenix) | 14–15 h ahead | 6–7pm to 3–4am | 6–7am to 3–4pm |
| Pacific (Los Angeles, Seattle) | 15–16 h ahead | 5–6pm to 2–3am | 5–6am to 2–3pm |
The Philippines is UTC+8 all year. Ranges reflect your own daylight-saving change. More on working across the time difference.
Why the Philippines
Why US companies outsource here
English that sounds familiar
English is an official language and the medium of instruction, and the accent and idiom Filipino professionals grow up with are closer to American English than most offshore markets. Ask for a live call and judge it yourself.
Round-the-clock coverage without a second office
A Philippine day shift is a US night shift for free. Companies that need 24/7 support or next-morning turnaround get it from the time difference rather than in spite of it.
Depth in the roles US companies outsource most
Customer support, virtual assistance, bookkeeping and e-commerce operations are the most established professions in a large, mature outsourcing industry — the talent pool is deep, not improvised.
The honest comparison with nearshore
Latin America overlaps your hours; the Philippines doesn’t. If live collaboration all day is non-negotiable, nearshore may fit better. If you want overnight coverage, deep support talent and cost, the Philippines usually wins.

Before you start
What US companies should check
The practical points that come up in almost every first conversation. Plain answers, not legal advice.
- How the team is engaged
Your team member is engaged through BuildNextTeam in the Philippines under our outsourcing arrangement. You don’t register an entity, run Philippine payroll or file anything locally. Your relationship is a monthly service agreement with us. How you account for the fee on your side is a question for your accountant — nothing here is legal or tax advice.
- Data and compliance
US buyers usually raise HIPAA, PCI and SOC-style expectations. Ask any provider how it supports your obligations: least-privilege access, no card data on screen, device control, and an office environment rather than home networks. The Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 governs personal data locally.
- Holidays
The Philippines has roughly 18–20 public holidays a year. You decide whether your team follows Philippine holidays, US holidays or a blend — decide it before the first month, not during it.
- Management, not delegation
You lead the work: tasks, training, priorities and KPIs. Companies that treat the team as colleagues rather than a vendor get much better results. If you don’t have someone to manage the person, a managed BPO service may suit you better — we’ll say so.

Clients are welcome in Bohol. It has its own international airport (Bohol–Panglao), a short domestic hop from Manila or Cebu after the long-haul flight. Most US clients plan a visit once the team has settled in.

Questions
US companies ask
Do I need a US or Philippine entity to hire staff in the Philippines?
No. Your team member is engaged through BuildNextTeam in the Philippines, and you contract with us under a monthly service agreement. You don’t set up a local company, register for payroll or file anything in the Philippines.
Can my Philippine team work US business hours?
Yes. A Philippine night shift lines up with a US working day in any time zone. It’s common for support and sales roles. Night shifts usually carry a differential, and we run them from the office rather than from home.
Is the time difference a problem for US companies?
Only if you expect all-day live collaboration by default. Most US clients use a Philippine day shift as overnight coverage for async work, or a night shift for live hours, and keep one daily overlap window either way.
How do you handle sensitive customer or financial data?
Office-based staff, least-privilege access to your systems, no shared logins and no card data on screen are the baseline. Tell us your specific obligations — HIPAA, PCI or otherwise — and we’ll walk through how the setup supports them before you commit.
How much does it cost a US company?
One all-inclusive monthly rate per person, with no upfront fee. We don’t publish prices because the rate depends on the role, seniority and shift. See how pricing works, then tell us the role and we’ll quote it.
